Thinking in longer timeframes

Which tradition do I place my actions in? What does it mean to think in circles rather than in straight lines?

“Arising, abiding, passing away — a thinking in circles rather than in a straight line.”

– from the workshop introduction

The linear thinking of ever-more shapes our era — growth without end, expansion without measure.

In Macy's approach, the idea of thinking in longer timeframes plays a central role.

Through connecting with earlier and coming generations, it becomes easier to recognise which traditions we want to place ourselves in, and what our own tasks might be.

We connect with our resources, with what others created and fought for before us and for us, and perhaps learn to judge better what lies in our hands and what does not.

The concrete design is adapted to the topic, the group and the occasion.
