Shame & growth

Shame also stands for the longing for growth and authenticity, and is at the same time shaped by social norms.

[I]n an important sense there is only one complete unblushing male in America: a young, married, white, urban, northern, heterosexual Protestant father of college education, fully employed, of good complexion, weight and height, and a recent record in sports.

– Erving Goffman, Stigma

Shame and guilt are two emotions that often paralyse political action — and are rarely spoken about. We ask: what does it mean to show oneself as vulnerable in social contexts? How do we deal with ecological guilt, collective shame and our own entanglements?

This is one of the most sensitive topics in the series. The frame is built with corresponding care.

The concrete design is adapted to the topic, the group and the occasion.
